As the one and only engine to power all of the United States Air Force’s C-17

material and operational support, off-wing engine overhaul and repair, and all the
necessary engineering support services.
The F117 engine powering the C-17 Globemaster III has set records and won
awards. During qualification testing, the F117 powered C-17 set 22 world
records. As a direct result of Pratt and Whitney’s historical and comprehensive
understanding of the engine as the original manufacturer, the F117 engine

/ n; F, V, \5 J, z" R0 |and material advancements such as second-generation single-crystal turbine
materials and improved cooling management and thermal barrier coatings to
lower metal surface temperatures. Paired with higher operational performance,
lower fuel burn and improved maintenance diagnostics, the F117 engine is a
perfect complement to its commercial counterpart as the world’s leading
midrange-thrust engine.
