其实是一样的，如0.50in 、0.5in、 .50in其尺寸都是0.5英寸。输入计算机时0.5与.5都是一样的。

不光美国，其他好多西方国家都是这么表示的，0.5和.5都是一个意思。

大多数图纸都是统一按.50in标注；有的图纸标注不严谨，0.5in与.5in在一张图上会同时出现。
至于.后面的位数， .5in .50in、 .500in 、.5000in，往往跟尺寸精度等级有关，如果是未注公差，会对应不同的精度等级。

按照ASME Y14.5《 尺寸与公差》的规定，用十进制表示英寸时如果小于1英寸时小数点前不应该有0（ASME Y14.5-2009《尺寸和公差》的1.6.2条的a项），参考下图。

如果图纸上有0.5，那人家肯定会以为是采用毫米为单位了（看该标准的1.6.1条）。
