Instructions on the Use of Hydrostatic

Limit conditions for axial piston units

• For applications at temperatures lower than -25C, we recommend2 T* \' H6 B0 H! z
that the shaft seal be made of perbunan or PTFE1). However, in the
# b4 S: r) C$ p3 |! Jcase of perbunan, please note that the maximum operating( ]2 W% u6 H: q# z. x) t' b: y9 d
temperature is reduced to 90C
: d" n  G& ?3 g* ^& A0 H1 y• Moisture in the environment of the axial piston unit must be
1 Q- r4 m% c2 m3 Lprevented, because any moisture on the shaft seal can cause the+ v* _7 V( R  R1 H" w9 o9 r
seal lip to freeze on the shaft while the machine is at standstill.
* j4 n: H; m* x: IThen, on starting, the possibility of seal destruction cannot be1 s9 G# D3 i; P- [; z
eliminated.
9 t( T3 u, ?9 e5 e5 F• Viscosity must be maintained within the limits specified in the: d! X, }0 B1 R2 o. ~8 M- Q0 ^
technical data of the axial piston machine by selecting a suitable( u: w8 X6 y' u+ S
hydraulic medium for the entire operating period, both in winter+ p! L# ?9 N9 T9 B( k; B/ e, w
and in the hotter summer temperatures.
9 x8 B/ a( `) F' ]" }$ CThe limiting values for viscosity are as follows:
6 f* I; t* g; \0 }5 ?min = 5 mm2/s
! O+ D8 V  y! H4 Y; z6 r' gshort term at a max. permissible temp. of tmax = 115C/90C.) D; x, A# g* M
Please note that the maximum temperature of 115C for the7 P* V  q) _. u( P8 F+ L
hydraulic medium (90C for perbunan) must never be exceeded,) v' Y* J6 n  j5 w& t
even in specific locations, e.g. the bearing area.
" @1 c9 _5 a) L6 ?! Z7 Z) w0 jmax = 1600 mm2/s+ k. o1 o9 ^; v8 u+ g& d7 Y& j  Y
short term on cold start (n≤1000 rpm, tmin = -40C).
# w+ d+ F! y/ y7 l1 [• Particular attention must be paid to the starting viscosity.
- X( c$ `9 {2 m* j6 D: gFor pumps in open circuit, there is also an acute danger of cavitation
/ h* A3 G1 \8 f) Cwhen starting with highly viscous (“gelled”) media in the intake
0 c: T, w% P9 M3 W, j* L6 nline, because this type of pump usually starts with the maximum

• When installing new components, these components must first be
+ R7 ^" {* R" P$ V0 cfilled at higher temperatures, so that sufficient lubrication is ensured- r4 @+ P, Z; P4 M) I- t
in all zones.( b; U' w7 i+ ~6 v& ?2 T3 ~
• Measures for filters, cylinders, gears etc. must be agreed with the: `/ |4 \$ _+ d' p
manufacturers.

increases in hysteresis or increased switching times must be
9 C- Q; e! `& rexpected due to increasing viscosity of the hydraulic medium at3 X6 w/ i+ }) t- b, F# g
lower temperatures.5 o4 v# U) P" K% t( z/ i

• Warm up all components to at least -40C.
0 I, b4 o, f* a4 w• Start the drive engine.( y9 J& u+ ^& W" i9 S  a) S! }
• Warm-up phase for open hydraulic systems* q3 h9 O* k4 v& |& h+ A, ?( y& S
- The pump starts up with the diesel engine and must be operated* i  _/ c7 B& q1 V& d' ^
for at least 10 minutes at the engine idling speed in order to
  B5 j! ~) G/ Z- @) K: t: Gensure self-lubrication.8 R6 w  O: z! v, v. X0 p7 V
- The pump must be in low-pressure circulation mode
/ D( P+ @& w4 X. A2 \9 f- ^(max. 50 bar and max. 50% oil flow).
1 K* |) L. b5 C2 m9 A7 k  f- Generate a circulating pressure of approx. 50 bar at the pump by8 u, I' F3 x) w* I+ X
a separate pressure make up valve. This operating condition must
# U4 o7 d1 {7 j. h6 Ybe maintained until the system reaches a temperature of -25C.
4 @+ T9 J6 ?9 A3 LThe speed of the diesel engine must not be increased during this
# W2 }- y5 ^$ R8 qperiod.; \& ~7 A: R$ ]0 q2 S
- Then slowly operate all system functions several times at low load, N% D$ I1 o! l; o; d/ \+ e
in order to warm up the entire system as uniformly as possible.5 L1 t( S4 E6 n. @( R
During this period, the tank temperature must be monitored, since7 c$ U+ g9 u! x# ?7 J0 c
it will drop due to the cold hydraulic medium returning to the
1 ^, X# r0 e7 gtank.% }9 k) u! H$ v# C4 |/ h) O
• Warm-up phase for closed hydraulic systems  l, S0 `4 b8 E  r
- Set the pumps to neutral position without oil flow.
- j, z6 w  k* }1 ?- The pump starts up with the diesel engine and must be operated8 s  G, R9 u8 @' U% x9 Z2 G
for at least 10 minutes at engine idling speed.
5 S. \( R; G' p1 v- Then slowly swivel the pump outwards. All system functions must! S* B  f; Q1 F8 L
be operated slowly several times at low load until the entire system, R3 t: |) N; B) O/ j
reaches a temperature of -25C.6 y( s- [7 |4 X% V
• Continuous flushing is necessary in all components in order to
- Q+ @: @$ J$ \; {6 k8 l$ {prevent temperature shocks. The temperature difference between
5 K: T9 G/ i9 lthe hydraulic medium and individual components must not exceed, s+ l4 e1 i7 A6 M' h2 H' O
20C.
; F0 \# H" I) a! s2 W% J• The hydrostatic motors must be flushed transversely via the flushing
, T3 e% t2 |. K! S(U) and leakage oil ports (T). During this process, the permissible) {- H- E9 F" w( _
housing pressures must be monitored. Flushing should remain active8 U( i3 a' a0 @3 m  f' F
during operation in order to ensure that motors operated only, {3 F9 I+ ^4 i; z
occasionally are maintained at operating temperature.+ J* v3 O( X" G$ u4 F3 {9 r& X$ R4 W
• Our axial piston units can be operated under full load as from a
7 D  P3 [. p2 c& Xcircuit temperature of -25C in the system.
