In April 2009, ASME issued a Special Notice concerning: J+ s: g! S3 C
the use of Code Case 2199, 2199-1, 2199-2, and 2199-3. These
; l s; C% ~" G7 BCases address the use of 2.25Cr-1.6W-V-Cb (Grade 23) material
" \7 C) ~+ N! F. O! j# b2 P gfor Section I applications. Table 1 of Code Case 2199-3 was2 B" I5 Y$ ^7 H9 L4 T7 \) R
revised to ensure adequate material hardenability and to modify2 [! o; u- J" @4 t
subparagraph (b) to clarify hardness testing requirement. For
" x7 T- V& U1 X u6 v0 C0 @Table 1, the maximum amount of N was reduced, the minimum! I) G# N1 |) G- `/ U3 a
amount of B was increased, a limit on Ni was added, a Ti
& y* S, a7 c; O7 Y$ [! w. K; @requirement was added and a Ti to N ratio was added. An
5 ~. {6 ~, d3 m& \6 dexemption to the Ti:N ratio was included based on hardness test6 {7 o* L8 d" E# c1 _: x
results from fully hardened material. Sub-paragraph (b) was6 T* m9 U. K& W$ Z6 n- p' \
modified to clarify when in the processing order the maximum" z, n) {: F, \/ Y8 M0 a7 V" V* f
hardness limit would be invoked. Manufacturers are cautioned
# f3 y2 s5 z) Y/ y, A$ \1 |/ X4 U0 @that these revisions to Case 2199 have safety implications3 W! K% ^: Z& A* A8 f- E( ^
insofar as material produced to earlier revisions of the Case8 m0 R) g5 @5 b, V( v( Q7 v& n
(2199-3, 2199-2, etc.) could meet the chemistry requirements% { z3 ~$ \- p# j& ?. T
specified in the Code Case, but it may not achieve the specified

A Special Notice was issued by ASME stating that Code Case
