In April 2009, ASME issued a Special Notice concerning
: @+ O j2 @1 t L+ W" w+ V: D. V0 Tthe use of Code Case 2199, 2199-1, 2199-2, and 2199-3. These% X# C( t3 D7 p) x. h1 ~+ _2 M. `
Cases address the use of 2.25Cr-1.6W-V-Cb (Grade 23) material
+ O1 a; C. Q5 d V2 {5 J# a1 @for Section I applications. Table 1 of Code Case 2199-3 was* L& `( L, r% G6 Y5 y, U! H+ T
revised to ensure adequate material hardenability and to modify% h+ S* R5 h( B
subparagraph (b) to clarify hardness testing requirement. For2 n. k3 K+ R* T: _! C: v
Table 1, the maximum amount of N was reduced, the minimum
1 a. G$ @. z9 K' lamount of B was increased, a limit on Ni was added, a Ti
, k. S$ \8 r! }2 prequirement was added and a Ti to N ratio was added. An" u/ D9 G9 q2 {! O( G$ O9 b
exemption to the Ti:N ratio was included based on hardness test
, ^0 P: y& F' ?# R9 k9 qresults from fully hardened material. Sub-paragraph (b) was
" h. d; w- U; [( ]: `% ?4 V7 H+ emodified to clarify when in the processing order the maximum
3 f/ G+ `5 ]$ ?- chardness limit would be invoked. Manufacturers are cautioned
8 m! \: d& \. g+ r* q& o2 sthat these revisions to Case 2199 have safety implications

A Special Notice was issued by ASME stating that Code Case
+ l* C5 h- n0 D3 k2 Y/ ` ~7 Y5 M2199-4 should now be used, and the use of Code Cases 2199,
