2009 Why might SolidWorks 2010 (or SolidWorks Explorer 2010) not start after rebooting the computer?

; X5 J: }' S+ z$ Q9 jThis is a known issue that only appears under the following conditions:

2 S1 w' ?2 m% n" E/ G, m; z( yMicrosoft Windows® XP 32-bit + specific Data Execution Prevention (DEP) settings./ |3 G& o9 C" P& Q* L2 W4 W# }
The problem has been submitted to the SolidWorks Development team with the SPR below:! Q- n7 T2 v- G" ?% T) o/ q
SPR 524232: SolidWorks 2010 no longer starts after the computer has been restarted. Note that using another user account to start SolidWorks via Run As allows SolidWorks to start until next reboot...

; i2 @3 A) ?1 d( T* h! H! ~The workaround to this is as follows:
. j. ?/ A, o% e- y1. Right Mouse Button on My Computer and select Properties' ]& S5 x3 b4 G. X+ v1 C
2. On the Advanced tab>Performance>click Settings
/ d; f: l8 X1 ]. y3. Go to the Data Execution Prevention tab and most likely the setting "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select" will be active
8 ?7 E0 r$ t( M4. In the exception list see if Windows Explorer (explorer.exe) is listed. If it is, then select it and choose to Remove it from the list( {7 a* E# a( s9 R) x
5. OK out of all settings windows and reboot.

% c- V. I/ q4 \% gWhen doing Step 3 above if the user currently has the option "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only" active, then do these alternate steps:
3 U* y. f6 S8 \4. Toggle the other DEP option on so the list of possibly previously specified exceptions can be accessed3 b$ a; s( q* g3 D
5. If Windows Explorer is in that exceptions list, then do the following process:% g6 z. F- c5 p. Y9 |0 w
a. Remove Windows Explorer from the list
r' E. X' R6 o2 K0 B b. Reboot
; }, s: J: I0 B6 ^ t q0 A" K c. Go back in the DEP interface again and set the option back to “Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only"
7 d1 K& o$ Z9 Y d. Reboot once more.
