Abstract:
Large wind power installation raises challenges for the transmission system operator. In order to guarantee the safety operation of the power system, the wind power plant has to behave “grid friendly”. In this paper, firstly it answers question as “what should be the behaviors of a grid friendly wind power plant?”, then it proposes “how to control the wind power plant to behave grid friendly?” Several case studies are used to compare the thermal power plant and “grid friendly” wind power plant, identifies the benefits of wind power plant and also recognizes the drawbacks. It is concluded that the wind power plant will not only support the power grid similar as traditional thermal power plant, but also have the possibilities to provide even better grid supports.
