Energy converter for future wind turbines need to be large single unit, cost effective and reliable at the same time. Direct drive energy converter have good energy yield, easy grid connectivity and less mechanical failure but they are large and heavy as the size grows. Magnetic bearings could reduce the weight of direct drive machine therefore making them suitable for energy converter for the next generation of wind turbines. |
