In April 2009, ASME issued a Special Notice concerning! V5 l) Y& J6 H6 X7 B0 q8 H) X2 K
the use of Code Case 2199, 2199-1, 2199-2, and 2199-3. These
; o' {5 z. o: bCases address the use of 2.25Cr-1.6W-V-Cb (Grade 23) material8 a/ R y! k! s
for Section I applications. Table 1 of Code Case 2199-3 was
x1 d% ]/ n; }* Zrevised to ensure adequate material hardenability and to modify
, x L/ F' Z6 [7 B2 N2 u0 D! Osubparagraph (b) to clarify hardness testing requirement. For' E1 O1 ]& p* d+ t& ^ g
Table 1, the maximum amount of N was reduced, the minimum9 D: F9 J* W, h
amount of B was increased, a limit on Ni was added, a Ti
" V; z. G- l6 [. g' Qrequirement was added and a Ti to N ratio was added. An
: y& o P& u! b( Q8 lexemption to the Ti:N ratio was included based on hardness test% \5 v' c/ \. H" ? _
results from fully hardened material. Sub-paragraph (b) was8 h3 G9 m" X G- E2 F
modified to clarify when in the processing order the maximum; b, R( d4 a; ~: \$ Q& X" [
hardness limit would be invoked. Manufacturers are cautioned

insofar as material produced to earlier revisions of the Case7 ]- }, C) n t9 ]: m `7 M2 M9 b, B
(2199-3, 2199-2, etc.) could meet the chemistry requirements

mechanical properties following the normalizing heat treatment.

2199-4 should now be used, and the use of Code Cases 2199,
